How Glycoproteins In Our Cell's Membrane Help Prevent The Influenza Virus From Invading Our Cells!

When the influenza virus enters our bodies cell's, it must first fuse with the cell membrane. Our cell membranes have structures covering them called glycoproteins, which help prevent this fusion. They are made up of eight carbohydrates, aka polysaccharides and proteins. There are over 200 carbohydrates that occur in nature. Eight of these 200 are critical for cellular structure and function, ie cell membrane competency in preventing an infection. In summary, when our nutritional intake provides our cells with the raw materials they need for proper cell structure and function, there is a significant reduction in the likelihood of infection!

NIH articles

NIH artilces

For the above articls, I simply went to the National Institue of Health's website; www.NIH.gov and did a search on glycoproteins. There are many more! We only get two of these carbohydrates, which are used by our body to form glycoproteins, from our modern food sources. Our body's ability to make the other carbohydrates leaves us with very inadequate supplies, because the process has many steps and takes a lot of energy. Our bodies were designed to get these carbohydrates from our foods. This leaves us with the problem of our food source, it is sadly deficient in nutrients, including these essential carbohydrates. The logical answer is to supplement with these eight carbohydrates or their pre-cursors.
