Milk Thistle Liver

Milk Thistle Liver. The most active medicinal component of Milk thistle is the flavonoid silymarin.

Silymarin is one of the most potent liver protecting substances known!

A clinical study of various liver diseases was done testing silymarin. Fatty liver disease, chronic aggressive hepatitis, chronic persistent hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis, and cholestasis from cholelithiasis.

For fatty liver disease, all tested serum enzymes returned to normal (GOT, GPT, GLDH, LAP, and GT).

For hepatitis and cholestatis, definite improvement or restoration to normal was seen.

For hepatic cirrhosis there was considerable improvement or slowing of their deterioration.

Other beneficial effects of milk thistle are enhancing the ability of the liver to detoxify.

Glutathione levels can be increased in normal individuals by 35% with Milk Thistle supplementation. Conjugation with glutathione is a primary phase ll detoxification pathway of the liver.

Milk Thistle stimulates the production of new liver cells to replace older, damaged liver cells. However, the exception is with cancerous liver cells, where milk thistle does NOT increase production of malignant cells!
