Your Basic Steps For Osteoporosis Prevention!

Osteoporosis Prevention can be BEST outlined in the following way:

1. If you are a smoker, it is PARAMOUNT that you stop as soon as possible. Ceasing will improve your Osteoporosis Prevention, cardiovascular health, and reduce your risk for cancers. There are resources to help with this process. If you are ready to quit, please consider the different programs availble to help you be successful in this endearvor.

2. Reduce alcohol. Frequency and amount consumed play a large role in the effects of alcohol.

3. Remain physically active throughout your life. Doing weight bearing exercise stresses you bones in a BENEFICAL way that causes them to become stronger, more dense, a wonderful Osteoporosis Prevention. Density is your bone health goal! In addition, jarring exercises, for those in shape, also help increase bone density. These exercises include jogging, running, jumping, etc. Your bone is living tissue that responds to the needs of our bodies. When you are physically active and put tension on the bones, they respond by increasing density. This is so very important for us to remember and do consistently throughout our lives.

4. Make sure you are eating a balanced diet including LOTS of dark green leafy vegetables. If you are not meeting your nutritional needs, your body will "take" calcium from the bones to survive. This has a detrimental effect on your bone density. Several factors can maximize the absorption of nutrients for you.

i. Eating a balanced diet.

ii. If indigestion is a problem, correct it with

digestives enzymes

iii. Don't drink colas (carbonated beverages, or other caffeinated beverages). The phosphorus in the sodas leach minerals out of your bones.

iv. If pregnant of nursing, make sure that your nutritional intake is optimal. The babies needs come first, from a biological point of view, for a pregnant or nursing mom. Again, your body will take minerals from your bones to meet the needs of the baby! :)

5. Maintain a healthy weight, one where your are having regular periods. Obviously men, this does not apply for Osteoporosis Prevention!

6. Your nutritional intake should be ample in fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Animal protein has been shown in research to have a negative effect on bone density. For this and MANY other health reasons, it is best to not have too much animal protein in your diet.

7. Stay healthy, please don't abuse your "temple".

8. See a doctor on a regular basis.

9. Consider Bio-Identical hormone replacement therapy if necessary.

10. Last, but not least, PLEASE consider a WHOLE FOOD nutritional supplement to make up for likely nutritional "gaps".
