Ways To Prevent Heart Disease!

This page discuses ways to prevent heart disease from possibly occurring the first time or happening again.
This is not meant to be a guarantee; we all know there are very few things that can
actually claim that, however this will provide you with sound advise to help "stack the
cards in your favor", do more than you are currently doing, perhaps, to lower your
risk factors.
There are three main factors that determine our health:
genetics,
environment, and
nutrition.
Our genetic predisposition, or the genes we inherit from our parents,
of course influences our health, however it does not completely determine how our
health will be through-out our lives.
Nutrition and environment also play a role
in this determination.
This gives us a wonderful opportunity to lead our health
in the direction we choose, specifically in ways to prevent heart disease.
For example, when looking at ways to prevent heart disease, even if we have a strong
genetic predisposition for heart disease, we can greatly influence our risks with the
choices we make about our lifestyle and the decisions we make about nutrition.
The wonderful thing about naturopathic medicine is that so much of it is simply common sense!
We all know that maintaining a healthy body weight is important. Getting exercise, hopefully
on a daily basis, reduces the risks of many diseases and is a way to prevent heart disease.
Lowering stress must be included.
Obviously smoking does not help anything. If you are a smoker, or are around someone who exposes you to second hand smoke, I urge you to do yourself a favor and eliminate this risk factor in preventing heart disease.
Deciding it is important enough is the first step in making a change!
The role of nutrition as one of the ways to prevent heart disease considers not only what we are eating that
increases our risks, but what we are eating that reduces them.
We must consider the type of fats and carbohydrates
we eat. We need good fats, complex carbohydrates, and protein for health.
Our selection process should include very little, if any, animal proteins and mainly good fats.
Cold water fish is wonderful as one of the ways to prevent heart disease, and there are other sources of clean, lean meat which are not too unhealthy, however, most of us have a lot of room to reduce the amount of animal protein we consume.
One egg a day actually will assist in lowering your cholesterol.
This egg should be poached or boiled
and be from hens that are free range and not given antibiotics or steroids.
The daily consumption of
one egg reduces the amount of cholesterol our bodies make everyday, therefore attributing to the
lowering of your overall cholesterol, hence a way to prevent heart disease.
Refined carbohydrates almost always have a high glycemic index which causes your blood glucose (sugar) to rise.
This will eventually increase your risk for type 11 diabetes, syndrome X, and
heart disease.
Supplements play a large role in the ways to prevent heart disease.
Omega 3 essential fatty acids,
Co-enzymeQ10, nattokinase, gingko, vitamin E, Hawthorne berry, L-argine, and taurine are some of my favorites.

A plant based multi-vitamin is essential.
Our heart is a muscle. One of the main aspects in the way
muscles work is by the passing of positively or negatively charged ions across the cell membrane,
in this case of the heart cells.
Some of these ions are calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
This causes an electrical conduction that creates an impulse. When enough heart cells do this you generate
a "beat".
When we lack the ions necessary to create this beat, our heart's effectiveness suffers.
We have heart palpitations, which can be compared to the sensation of a flutter in the chest.
Additionally, our heart's ability to maintain it's rhythm can be disturbed, and the ability of the heart to work
effectively diminishes, for example with congestive heart failure.
These are some of the reasons why in addition to eating a healthy diet, do like the American Medical Association suggests, take a
multi vitamin
, in my opinion a plant based multi, to help provide use with those
essential minerals to prevent heart disease
